Boot Camp started today. There were 55 young kids that started, which is the largest class so far. This new group doubles the unit size. My oldest daughter was selected as a squad leader. I was so proud.

Thanks for the info, what a great way to help for the holidays. Here are some other ways to help, too, from gazette.com. I think they're running a new list every week, so stay tuned and I'll try to pass it on.

You would have to contact the volunteer coordinator at Silverkey for more details. I know they need people to deliver to the homes of the people receiving the food baskets

I am a father of three grown boys that live in the Netherlands and a step-father of two awesome step-daughters that live with me now. I missed my sons growing up and have been given a second chance at being a father, which I am enjoying.
Being a step-father does have its challenges but I learn something almost every day from the girls.

After I retired from the military I decided to start giving back to the community. I joined the service organization SERTOMA and have been serving as President of the club since July 2009. Our club has just became the sponsers of a new SERTEEN club at Liberty High School. My family are also SERTOMANs which is great because not only do we get to give back to the community together but also teaches the girls a valuable lesson of giving.

Kids and computer/internet use

I have been tossing around the idea of buying our 11yr old a netbook for Christmas. I do have concerns about her having one at that age. How old should a child be before they are responsible enough to own such an expensive piece of equipment? Should we only let her use it when we are present? I know as she gets into higher levels of schools she will need to use the internet. Should I delete the chat programs and block the social sites? I am sure its based on how responsible the child is but I re… Continue

Silverkey needs help from volunteers

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share with you all that Silverkey has started their holiday baskets for the elderly. If you would like to volunteer some time and help deliver the food baskets please give them a call. They plan on giving out over 700 baskets this year and it could be a great event/experience for you and your child to do together. My family will be helping out this saturday.
