Pikes Peak Parent

Hello Parents

My son and I are moving to Colorado Springs this summer (julyish), and I am in search of both a good Pediatrician (covered by CHP), and a Naturopathic doctor. My son has had issues gaining weight, and we're going through a lot. We live in Oregon, and our state insurance has control over most of our medical decisions for our son. We have been forced to feed our son with an NG tube for the last few months, and it is taking a toll on all of us. We are excited to be leaving all this behind, as I know my son is healthy and can eat fine without a feeding tube. I would really like to see a doctor who would help us get to the bottom of my son's weight issues without using a feeding tube as a bandaid. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Best,

Kaitlin

We love Dr. McKaffrey at Ironhorse Peds. He and Dr. Maynard saved our little boy's life by catching things early. He calls them the "old guys". The "old guys" have seen everything. Although they aren't alternative docs, they are respectful of some of our alternative choices for our son. Great docs.

Hi Kaitlin! I can honestly say that I heartily recommend ANY of the doctors at ABC Pediatrics. They are in the north part of the city, off of Union around Research. Our primary doc is Dr. Karen Childs, but they are all wonderful. A short story:

We had always taken our daughter there, and she was a normal, healthy child. But our son was a different story. From the time he was born, every cold turned into pneumonia - that sort of thing. Around July 4, when he was 7 months old, we woke one day and he had a golf-ball sized area around his lymph node where his little body was just overcome with infection. Over the weekend before July 4 (it was a Tuesday that year), we went in EVERY DAY for them to see if he was ready for surgery. (They were waiting to see if his body would absorb it or not) Saturday, Sunday, the Monday before a holiday and then ON July 4 we saw a doctor who took as much time as we needed. Finally on July 4, he had surgery. Today he is a happy, healthy 4-year-old but I've never forgotten how helpful and comforting they were.
